Overall Objective
As a key member of the construction team you will be required to work within a team and undertake a wide variety of construction projects. As a skilled operative you will be involved with farm construction and building projects and commercial civils projects.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the Health & Safety of yourself and any other staff on location, ensuring all documentation is completed to the required legal standard.
- Various groundworks to include setting out levels, excavations and all aspects of concrete works from slab formations and finishes to foundations.
- Have a clear understanding of the importance of the BB4 core values and understand the impact of maintaining them for the benefit of the whole group.
- Assist in building erection and cladding works when required this may include roofing, demolition and building refurbishments.
- Understand; assist with knowledge and skills to reduce costs where ever possible, but without compromising on the quality of the finished work.
- Responsible to utilise all equipment and materials safely and in the correct manner, using the right tools/equipment for the intended purpose, saving time and damage/cost to tools.
- Provide regular progress updates (including issues, concerns) to the working foreman or site manager on a regular, timely basis
- Take a prominent role in promoting communication to and from foreman/site manager.
- Assist and participate with meetings for your team and customers, events, shows and training.
- Organise work area, tools, equipment and plant and thought to the daily work load, accept work instructions, indicate that you have a clear understanding of the tasks required, ask your foreman or site manager to repeat the instructions at ALL times if not clear.
- To understand and carry out procedures and routines to ensure consistent quality of work and compliance with relevant regulations and accreditations
- Ensure required data is recorded correctly and accurately, providing to administration in a timely and efficient manner
- Effective planning of daily tasks, utilisation of equipment and other team members to help you if required.
- Have a clear understanding of method statements, risk assessments all H/S documents as required by different individual projects.Proactive planning of machinery and equipment is maintained, ensuring clear communication to the foreman/site manager with any defects or concern.
- Plan and ensure all plant and machinery has fuel for use and proactively plan fuel top ups accordingly.
- Ensure all machinery is maintained and safe to use, report the need for repairs and breakdowns in a timely manner to keep downtime to a minimum and all equipment is in good order, returned off projects, stored correctly and ready for next use.
- Accept deliveries of materials to sites, organising that all quantities are correct and delivery notes are collected and kept to reconcile against invoices.
- Adhere to the legal requirements of Health and Safety and environmental factors affecting our work on sites.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Has had training in Health & Safety at work and can understand and complete risk assessments if required.
- Has a full clean driving license (trailer is an advantage)
- Rough terrain forklift, digger, dumper, CSCS certification an advantage
- Experience in general ground works, concreting, drainage, building works, fabrication, steel erecting, sheeting, demolition an advantage
- Experience/capability to carry out general servicing/repairs to machines, equipment and tools
- Must be able to work within a team and as a lone worker
- Understand that travelling is required to get to jobs and overnight stays may be required
- Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels
